Kansas falls to Tulsa in Rock Chalk Challenge opener

LAWRENCE, Kan. – In its first game of the Rock Chalk Challenge, Kansas fell to Tulsa 11-5 at Arrocha Ballpark.

Brynn Minor led Kansas in the circle and added to her efforts at the plate, tallying the Jayhawk’s lone home run of the game in the fourth inning. The home run was the first of Minor’s Kansas career.

The one-run advantage that the Jayhawks (5-18) held heading into the top of the fifth didn’t last long as Tulsa tacked on its first three runs of the game against Minor.

After a scoreless sixth inning by both teams, the Hurricane let loose and tallied eight runs against Minor and Hannah Todd.

Down to their last three outs, Kansas earned four runs against Tulsa reliever Kassidy Scott and it started with a Macy Omli single.

Following the Omli single and Sam Dellinger reaching base on an error, Miranda Rodriguez roped a single to the outfield, which plated Omli.

A walk by Sydnee Ramsey and a RBI single by Brittany Jackson loaded the bases and notched the Jayhawks second run of the inning.

Becki Monghan added a two-RBI single to left field, which allowed both Jackson and Ramsey to score the final two Kansas runs.

NOTES

  • Minor’s fourth-inning home run is the first home run of her Kansas career.
  • The Jayhawks tallied four runs in one inning for the fourth time this season.
