Marwitz named Big 12 Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Senior outfielder Jennifer Marwitz has been named Big 12 Player of the Week for her performance against Baylor March 30-31.

Marwitz proved to be an integral part in helping Kansas capture the series victory over Baylor for the first time since 2001.

“Jen Marwitz had an outstanding weekend and finished 7-for-10 at the plate for us,” said head coach Jennifer McFalls. “She had a timely hit for us in the first game against Baylor and scored the game-winning run. Jen had a lot of confidence this weekend and finally relaxed. I am very proud of her and the work she has been putting in at practice. It is starting to pay off for her at the right time.”

In the first game of the series against the Lady Bears, the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma native helped complete a comeback that started with the Jayhawks down 7-0 after two innings.

Marwitz earned a RBI in the seventh inning to score KU’s second run of the inning, and was the game-winning run on Emily Bermel’s two-out RBI single. She finished 4-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored.

Marwitz also hit her first career home run in the second game of the series, and finished with a Big 12 best seven hits (7-for-10). She also tied for a conference-high in on-base percentage (.700), while finishing tied for third in RBI (5) and fourth in slugging percentage (1.100).

The honor is the first of Marwitz’s career and the first Jayhawks since Harli Ridling was named Big 12 Player of the Week on April 25, 2017.
