Monaghan to represent Canada on the national stage

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas softball infield/catcher Becki Monaghan will represent her country this summer after making the Team Canada Junior National roster for the second time in her career.
 
The sophomore-to-be hails from Stoney Plain, Alberta and last played for the Canadian National Team in 2015. Monaghan and Team Canada will play in the Canada Cup before traveling to Florida for the 2017 WBSC Junior Women’s Softball Championship at the end of July.
 
During her freshman campaign at KU, Monaghan appeared in 48 games and made 47 starts. She batted .261 with 31 hits in 119 at-bats, the highest batting average among the freshmen. Monaghan recorded seven doubles, 15 RBIs and 12 runs scored, while registering a .319 slugging percentage and .364 on-base percentage.
 
Monaghan posted seven multi-hit games and four multi-RBI performances. She recorded her first-career hit and RBI against Savannah State (2/10) and tallied a career-best three hits against Omaha (3/19).
