Rain Washes Out Kansas’ Final Game Against Cowgirls

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Multiple rain clouds moved into the Lawrence Area on Sunday afternoon causing two rain delays at Rock Chalk Park before Kansas softball called the ballgame against Oklahoma State.

The Jayhawks (28-20, 5-8 Big 12) and Cowgirls (27-22, 6-9 Big 12) played through three and half innings before the rain washed out the series finale, cancelling the game rather than naming a victor. Oklahoma State won the series after claiming wins in the first two meetings of the weekend.

Before the game was cancelled, the Cowgirls had a 2-0 lead while Kansas had the game-tying run on first base in the bottom of the fourth. Unofficially, OSU recorded six hits to the Jayhawks’ one, a base hit from senior outfielder Briana Evans.

The game is considered cancelled since the Jayhawks and Cowgirls didn’t play a full five innings. A minimum of five innings must be completed in order for a game to declare a winner.
