Kansas Football is going international in a way no college football team ever has before.
The Big 12 Conference, along with host institution Kansas, announced on October 1, 2025, that the Jayhawks will square off with Arizona State in the first-ever Union Jack Classic at London’s iconic Wembley Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026.
“This is the perfect moment in time for Kansas Football to blaze an uncharted trail to historic Wembley Stadium in London,” Kansas Director of Athletics Travis Goff said. “This opportunity is reflective of the growth and trajectory of our football program and the entire University, and will provide our fans and student-athletes an unprecedented experience. We’re excited that our season ticket holders and students will still have six opportunities to watch a game at The Booth next season as that project is being completed, while also having the chance to see the Jayhawks play international for the first time ever.
"Our commitment is to provide a first-class, generational experience for our program and supporters, while showcasing Jayhawk Football and the University of Kansas on a global stage.”
The game will serve as a home matchup for the Jayhawks, who will still play six home games at the reimagined David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in 2026. With the east side of the stadium slated for construction following the 2025 season and throughout the 2026 season, Kansas will have reduced capacity for home games next season. The Union Jack Classic will take place during Week Three of the 2026 season. Kansas will be the designated home team for the Conference match-up between the two schools.

The original Wembley Stadium opened in April 1923 and has fixed itself firmly into the nation's hearts and minds, thanks to hosting some truly incredible moments in European football history. Built for the British Empire Exhibition of 1924, Wembley was due to be demolished immediately afterwards. However, businessman and civil servant Sir James Stevenson suggested the stadium stay open, as football had been played on the grounds where it was built since the 1880s. Soon after, King George V officially opened the stadium and the pitch was dubbed the ‘hallowed turf’.
Of course, Wembley is about so much more than football. As the pre-eminent sports and entertainment venue in Britain, it’s hosted a wide range of events from rugby (league and union) to speedway championships, stock car and greyhound racing – and just about everything in between.
The stadium was a venue for the London 2012 Olympics, the 1948 Summer Olympics, and the 2015 Rugby World Cup. It is now an established home of NFL in the UK, and has staged several unforgettable boxing world-title fights. Wembley was the exclusive home stadium for the NFL International Series from 2007-15 and continued to host games through 2019 and again from 2022-24.
The Union Jack Classic will be the first FBS college football game held in England and only the second college football game ever played in London.
