Career Honors: 2008: KU Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year, KU Defensive Scout Team Player of the Week vs. Florida International and Oklahoma. 2007: KU Scout Team Offensive Player of the Week vs. Kansas State.

2008 (Jr.): Earned KU[apos]s George Mrkonic Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year honor… KU Defensive Scout Team Player of the Week vs. Florida International and Oklahoma.

2007 (RS): Redshirted his first season at Kansas.

Junior College: Lettered for two seasons at Garden City… Played defensive end… Had 70 tackles and seven sacks.

High School: Earned all-state honors as a senior… Was a two-time all-conference defensive end and tight end… Recorded more than 250 career tackles… Lettered four seasons… Also wrestled and placed in the state tournament.

Personal: Born in Osborne, Kan… Major is economics… Son of Doyle and Lisa Spears… Has two brothers and one sister… Father Doyle played football at Kansas, as did brother Derek.
