2010 (Sr.): Was a team captain… Big 12 Honorable Mention by the league coaches and the Associated Press… Was on the Ted Hendricks Award watch list… Earned Academic All-Big 12 second-team honors… Selected as the KU defensive player of the year… Also picked as KU defensive lineman of the year… Started all 12 games at defensive end… Made 30 starts in his career… Finished second in career sacks at KU with 21 and fifth in career tackles for loss with 33.5… Led KU linemen with 38 tackles on the year… Led team with 8.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks… Also led with three fumbles forced… Best tackle game was seven at Nebraska… Had five tackles in season finale vs. Missouri… Recorded sacks in four straight games starting with the Texas A&M game… Forced fumbles against New Mexico State, Colorado and Nebraska.

2009 (Jr.): Earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention by the league coaches and Associated Press… Was a Phil Steele All-Big 12 third-team pick… Was named to the Hendricks Award Watch List early in the season… Tabbed as the team[apos]s Ray Evans Award winner as the Jayhawks[apos] most valuable defensive player… Named the team[apos]s defensive player of the week vs. Duke and vs. Oklahoma… Started 11 of 12 games at defensive end… Led KU linemen with 49 tackles on the season, a figure which ranked seventh overall on the team… Led the team with 12 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks… Was credited with six quarterback hurries as well… Recorded at least one sack in each of the first four games as well as in six of the first eight contests… Forced fumbles against Duke and Texas Tech and recovered a fumble against Oklahoma… Registered a season-high seven tackles against Iowa State… Made six tackles in three different games – Northern Colorado, Southern Mississippi and Texas Tech.

2008 (So.): All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection… Named KU[apos]s Most Improved Defensive Player… Started the final six games of the year… Started seven contests overall… Led KU defensive linemen with 38 tackles… His 8.5 tackles for loss were second on the team, while his 7.0 sacks were also second… Two of his sacks resulted in safeties – vs. Colorado and Missouri… Had a stretch with sacks in three-straight games (Sam Houston, Iowa State and Colorado)… Also had a PBU and fumble recovery against Iowa State… His top three tackle games of the season came in the final three regular season contests, as he had a career-best six against Texas and five against both Nebraska and Missouri… Had four stops against Minnesota in the Insight Bowl.

2007 (Fr.): Earned All-Big 12 Freshman honors by The Sporting News… Played in all 13 games as a true freshman… Saw time at defensive end and recorded 20 tackles on the year… Had 4.5 tackles for loss, including three sacks… The three sacks tied for second on the team… His sacks came against Toledo, Baylor and Colorado… Had one pass broken up on the year against Southeastern Louisiana… Had a season-best four tackles against Toledo… Had three stops against Southeastern Louisiana, Baylor and Nebraska.

High School: An all-state second team selection at defensive end following the 2006 football season… Also named all-metro first team and all-district class 6A-4… A two-year, two-way starter at defensive end/tight end… Helped the Trojans earn the state championship trophy by collecting four unassisted tackles with 3.5 quarterback sacks in the title game in 2006… Ended his senior season with 12.5 sacks, 39 solo tackles and 42 assisted stops… Also caught eight passes for 89 yards and a touchdown as the team[apos]s tight end… Helped Jenks compile a 34-4 overall record his last three years at the school… Won the 6A district championships from 2004-06… Earned varsity letters in football and basketball… Coached in football by Allen Trimble.

Personal: Born in Tulsa, Okla… Major is accounting… Hobbies include video games, bowling, Frisbee golf and eating… Son of Darren and Kathy Laptad… Has two brothers… Grandfather, Bob, was a member of KU[apos]s track and field team, while father played football at Missouri Southern.
