2012 (Jr.): Played in nine games… Did not play against South Dakota State, Texas Tech or Iowa State… Lined up as the quarterback in the `Jayhawk[apos] formation in five games… Rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries… Recorded 43 yards rushing on five carries, including a career-long run of 15 yards, at Northern Illinois… Completed only pass attempt for three yards at NIU… Added a 13-yard carry against Oklahoma State… Scored only touchdown of the season versus Texas on a 15-yard run… Rushed for 22 yards on five carries at West Virginia.

2011 (So.): Played in 11 games this season, making six starts … Played both receiver and quarterback in the [quote]Jayhawk[quote] formation … Recorded catches in four-straight games … Caught two passes against Kansas State for 16 yards … Tallied 25 yards on three catches at Iowa State … Also attempted his first pass at ISU … Recorded his first rushing touchdown against Baylor … Caught a career-best four passes for 39 yards at Texas A&M … Recorded career highs in catches (four) and all-purpose yards (57) against the Aggies … Rushed for a career high of 31 yards on six carries against Missouri, while completing one pass for a 12 yards in the same game … One of six players to take offensive snaps in 2011.

2010 (RFr.): Played in eight games as a backup wide receiver… Caught one pass on the year… Had a 41-yard reception against New Mexico State… Returned two kickoffs against Baylor for 13 yards… Long return was 12 yards against the Bears.

2009 (Fr.): Redshirted his first year at KU… Named KU Offensive Scout Team Player of the Week vs. Duke.

High School: A three-year letterwinner… As a quarterback, was an all-state honorable mention selection as a junior… Was district MVP as a senior, as well as the district offensive MVP as a junior… Was the all-district sophomore of the year… As a senior he hit 155 of 245 attempts (63.3 percent) for 2,256 yards with 19 touchdowns and six interceptions… Team was 11-2 and won the district championship… Team finished the regular season ranked fourth in the state… In his career he was 516 of 829 (61.7 percent) for 6,580 yards, 52 touchdowns and 28 interceptions… Also played basketball and was an all-district second-team selection.

Personal: Son of Zina and Robert Matthews… Has one sister and one brother… Plans to major in American studies and would like to be a high school coach.
