Milan Donley joined Kansas Athletics in 2000.  Donley served as an assistant track and field coach, working with the horizontal jumpers and combined events until 2007, when he was named Meet Director for the Kansas Relays. Currently, Donley organizes all aspects of the Jayhawks’ home meets for both track & field and cross country.

As an assistant at KU, Donley mentored three Big 12 individual champions and was recognized by the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association as the 2005 Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year.

Prior to KU, Donley guided 17 All-Americans, two national champions, four Olympic team members, two U.S. champions and two American record holders between stints as the head coach at East Tennessee State and assistant coaching stops at Arkansas, Illinois, California, Southwest Texas State (Texas State) and Adams State College (Head Women’s Coach). This includes 1996 Olympian Sheila Hudson, an American record holder in the women’s triple jump and a six-time NCAA champion in the long jump and triple jump. Donley also coached his wife, Julie, in the 1992 Olympic Games.

Donley earned a bachelors degree in education from Southern Colorado University in 1981 before earning a masters degree in education from Adams State College in 1983.  He and his wife Julie have three children, Hailey, Ethan and Anna.  Ethan is currently a track and field student-athlete at KU.
