Bio

Stephen Bidne enters his second season as a Jayhawk after being named associate head coach in May 2022 by KU head coach Lindsay Kuhle.

In just his first season at Kansas, the Jayhawks earned an NCAA Regional at-large selection for just the second time in school history, with the other time in 2014.

The Jayhawks finished the season ranked 51st in Golfstat, which is up 28 spots from the previous season and their second-best ever season ending ranking. Their strength of schedule ranking of No. 34 was up 18 spots from 2021-22. KU posted 10 top-10 finishes with four of those in the top five in 2022-23.

In 2022-23, Kansas had its lowest team stroke average in school history (295.41), a 3.38 stroke improvement from the previous mark set in 2018-19. Kansas broke the school record for 18 holes with a 279 (-9) in its final round at the Westbrook Invitational. The Jayhawks broke the school record for 36 holes at the UCF Challenge at 566 (-10) and the 54-hole school record with an 852 (-12) at the same event.

As a team, Kansas recorded a program record 3.83 grade point average (GPA) in 2022-23. The team’s 3.81 fall GPA set the semester record only to be outdone with a 3.85 in the spring. All 11 women’s golf student-athletes were named to the 2022-23 Athletic Director’s Honor Roll recording a 3.50 or better GPA with four posting a 4.0 GPA in the fall and six having a 4.0 in the spring. Two players – Joahanna Ebner and Abby Glynn were named to the CSC At-Large All-District Team and five were named to the WGCA All-Scholar team posting a 3.5 GPA or better. The five were the most-ever named in Kansas women’s golf history.

Big West Conference Co-Coach of the Year in 2022, Bidne came to Kansas after five seasons as the head coach at Hawai’i. In 2022, Hawai’i was Big West co-champion, which was the first league title in school history.

In 2021-22, Bidne led Hawai’i to four team victories in addition to the conference title. In his five seasons, he guided the Rainbow Wahine to six team victories and six individual titles, both of which are the most by any head coach in program history. Additionally, in 2021-22 the Rainbow Wahine finished with its highest national ranking (No. 78) in 15 years and its best-ever team scoring average at 298.3.

In his first season at Hawai’i (2017-18) Bidne earned Big West co-Coach of the Year honors after leading the team to one team title and two runner-up finishes.

Bidne arrived at Hawai’i after four seasons as head coach at his alma mater, Northern Colorado. While at UNC, he helped the Bears get inside the Top 100 in his final two seasons after being ranked No. 224 in his first season. In his final two years with the Bears, UNC established program records for season scoring average. Bidne coached 11 Top 5 finishes during his time at UNC.

A native of Saint Paul, Minnesota, Bidne played collegiate golf at Northern Colorado from 2007-11. He then played on the PGA Tour Canada and various mini tours from 2011-13. He won five tournaments and placed in the top three 13 times as a pro.

Bidne is married to the former Addison Hassler. The couple has two daughters, Emerson and Gracie.
