Bio

Madison Hovis enters her third year as an assistant coach after being hired as KU’s third assistant in the summer of 2018. Hovis was elevated to the assistant position after spending the 2017-18 season as a volunteer assistant to the program.

Helped coach the Jayhawks to victory over Kansas State in the Sunflower Showdown on May 1, 2021 as well as back-to-back weekly honors from the Big 12 Conference. As a team Kansas tallied 20-plus top-5 finishes through six regattas. Academically, Kansas rowing was recognized by the Big 12 with 25 total honorees and the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) with 13 student-athletes named National Scholar Athletes.

In the 2019 season, the Third Varsity Eight took third at the Sunshine State Invite. The Novice 8+ at the Jayhawk Jamboree in 2018 finished in first-place.

As a Kansas rowing student-athlete, Hovis competed from 2013 to 2017 and was a four-time Athletic Director’s and Big 12 Commissioners honor roll honoree. As a rower, Hovis helped KU’s 1V4 to a third-place finish at the Big 12 Championship in 2015 and the Jayhawks’ 3V8 to a first-place medal at the Conference USA Championship in 2014.

A 2017 graduate of Kansas, Hovis earned a degree a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in sociology.th
