George Midgett joined Kansas Athletics in September of 2019 as the Director of Student-Athlete Development, Leadership & Outreach. Midgett comes to Lawrence after serving four years as the Director of Student-Athlete Leadership and Engagement at North Carolina Central University.
At NC Central, Midgett created and oversaw the NCCU WINGS (Winning Initiatives to Nurture Growth and Success) program, which focused on assisting student-athletes with balancing academics, athletics, and personal growth. During his tenure, NC Central student-athletes completed over 25,000 community service hours and finished #1 out of all Division I institutions during the 2018-19 scholastic year. Additionally, Midgett directed the Preparing to Soar Bridge Program, which assists first-year student-athletes with the academic, social and personal transition to the college environment as well as served as the advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Before joining NC Central, Midgett served in several roles in the Compliance Office at Vanderbilt University, as the Assistant Director of Compliance from 2012-15, Director of the ELITE Program in the same period as well as the Compliance Coordinator from 2004-2012.
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Midgett was a four-year letter winner in baseball at Fisk University, where he earned his undergraduate degree, majoring in business administration. Midgett also graduated cum laude from Belmont University with a Master’s Degree in Sports Administration. Midgett is a member of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) and is also a member of the 2009-2010 NCAA Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute cohort.
