Jeff Smith returned to the University of Kansas as Director of Compliance in September 2017 and was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance in July 2019. Smith serves as the primary point of contact for football, governance, and elite student-athlete issues. Previously he served as the Assistant Director of Compliance at Ohio State University. Smith was the primary Compliance contact for men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s fencing, men’s volleyball, softball, men’s and women’s rifle and men’s and women’s pistol. Prior to Ohio State, he was the Compliance Specialist at KU and spent time at the Big 12 Conference office where he was the Compliance Intern. Smith began his Compliance career as a Compliance Intern at the University of Tennessee while attending law school.
The Farmington Hills, Michigan native received his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University in Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy , and law degree from the University of Tennessee.
