J.R. Pulido has been with Student Athlete Support Services since February 2020. In his current role as Senior Associate Director of Academics he tracks initial and continuing academic eligibility for Football.
Before arriving at Kansas, J.R. was an Academic Advisor for Football at the University of Southern California. At USC J.R. carried administrative duties that included oversight of the Graduate Assistant Program and the Student Athlete Book Program. At USC he served as the advisor chair for the Professional Development Committee and Policy and Procedure Committee within SAAS. In his role as an instructor J.R. helped develop curriculum and taught PHED 165: Freshman Success Seminar.
J.R. brings experience from the Southeastern Conference where he worked at the University of Missouri and The University of Arkansas in athletic academics. In his previous role at the University of Missouri he was an Academic Coordinator with academic oversight of the Football and Men’s Golf team. J.R. oversaw administrative coverage of the Sheldon Academic Center. He helped create MizzouMade committees and served as the campus liaison for Advisor Forum. J.R. helped facilitate the Graduate Assistant Program which supervised and helped professional develop the graduate assistants within the MizzouMade academic department.
At the University of Arkansas J.R. served as Learning specialist and Academic Counselor within the Office of Student Athlete Success working with a multitude of teams. As a learning specialist J.R. worked primarily with football and basketball leading individualized skill-based learning session focusing on reading comprehension and writing strategies. As an Academic Counselor J.R. had oversight of Baseball and Track & Field academics. In his counselor role he facilitated staff meetings and was the International Student Liaison for OSAS.
J.R. is a contributing member of the National Association for Academic Advisors (N4A). He was selected to present at the NCAA Accelerating Academic Success Program conference (2014) and was a regional and national conference presenter. J.R. is a current member of the Academic Programs & Practices Committee, he served on the Model Practice Award Committee and built curriculum for the NACADA | N4A Global Advising course. He was selected to facilitate the NACADA | NCAA Academic Success and Student Athlete Online Course (2020). Finally, J.R. serves as a mentor for young professionals through the N4A Mentor Program.
J.R. is a graduate of Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and completed his Master of Science in Education Psychology with an emphasis in Mental Health Counseling. A native of Columbus, Texas, J.R. currently resides in beautiful downtown Kansas City with his wife Dani and cat Dev.
