Luke Roth is entering his second season as a Senior Special Teams analyst at Kansas.

Roth joined the staff in early July prior to the 2020 season. Roth assists with all facets of Special Teams for the Jayhawks, including preparing scouting reports, game plans, breaking down film and self-scouting. Roth filled in as the Jayhawks Special Teams Coordinator against West Virginia during the 2020 season and Kansas had a kickoff return for a touchdown to show for it. It was the first kickoff return for a score for the Jayhawks since 2016.

Roth arrived at Kansas from Western Kentucky, where he served in a Special Teams quality control position. In that role, he collaborated with the Special Teams coordinator on the team’s weekly game plan. Roth also helped organize the scout team and help with sideline organization. Roth helped coach 2-time C-USA Special Teams Player of the week Cory Munson, who also kicked the 53-yard game winning FG in the First Responders Bowl vs Western Michigan in 2019. He also helped develop 1st Team All-Conference punter John Haggerty, who posted a 46.2-yard average on the season ranking him top 5 in the Country in average punt.

Roth spent one season with Western Kentucky. Prior to his time there, Roth spent seven seasons at Bethel University TN as the program’s Assistant HC/Special Teams Coordinator and multiple positions coached over the seven seasons (RB’s / OLB’s / TE’s / WR’s). He led all six Special Teams units for Bethel University and prepared game planning, play calls and film breakdown for the unit. During his time at Bethel University he’s coached 3 AFCA 1ST Team All-Conference Specialists (Stoney Burns, Quincy Walden and J’Kobi Reddick). As well as 5 1ST Team All-Conference Specialists and 3 2ND Team All-Conference Specialists.

He also handled equipment, social media and day to day operations duties for Bethel University during his time.

During his 10-year career, his Special Teams units have combined for 32 Special Teams touchdowns and have produced eight All-Conference players and three All-American honorees.

Roth graduated from Bethel in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. He received a Masters of Education from Bethel in 2013.

Luke and his wife Kimberlee have been married since 2017, they’re expecting their first child in August of 2021.
