Kansas hosts Arkansas for Friday dual meet

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas swimming and diving team continue its competition momentum as the Jayhawks welcome the Arkansas Razorbacks this Friday, January 25, in dual action inside Robinson Natatorium. The action is slated to begin at 5 p.m.

The meet will be fast paced and a good opportunity for the team to continue perfecting the goals that they have set in preparation for the Big 12 Championship February 21-24 in Austin, Texas.

“We will be competing at the highest level that we can. We will go in and sharpen up the details of our races, making sure we are doing the right kind of things before and after. To prepare before and cool down after,” head coach Clark Campbell said. “There will be a lot of back-to-back racing going on. So you almost just treat it a little bit like a workout. It will be a high-quality session, lots of racing and (we will) just use this as the next step for Big 12s.”

Arkansas is not a new competitor for the Jayhawks and the two teams have always put on a good race. With goals in mind, Kansas’ team has been able to prepare for the competitive completion.

“We’ve swum (against) them quite a bit. In the diving standpoint, they are probably the best team in the country and will probably score more points in NCAA than anyone else in diving,” Campbell said. “From the swimming side they are very good in a dual meet, (a) very competitive team. We definitely have our work cut out for us. But what we really have to do is focus on swimming in our own lane and doing what we need to do to prepare for our Championship.”

Campbell looks forward to the diving competition and the team’s progress since last week’s victory over William Jewell (130-64).

“I really want to see how well our divers do. And with everybody, as a team, we want to definitely take a step forward from where we were last week and I think we will,” Campbell said. “Last week everyone was getting into the second semester mode. Everybody is a little bit more energized now compared to last week. We want to come out and be better than we were last week and just continue making those strides in getting ready for Big 12s.”
