Miller Qualifies for Third Consecutive NCAA Championships

LAWRENCE, Kan. – While most of the Kansas swimming and diving squad wrapped up its 2015-16 season with a historic conference meet less than a week ago, senior Chelsie Miller still has a little life left in her Jayhawk career. The NCAA announced the championship meet selections Tuesday morning, with Miller representing KU in the 200-yard butterfly as well as the 200- and 400-yard individual medleys.

This year will mark Miller’s third consecutive trip to the championships, having competed in the 200 and 400 IMs each year. The Houston, Texas product solidified her spot at NCAAs with a season-best swim in the 400 IM during Big 12s, turning in a time of 4:09.28 and a second-place finish.

During the league meet, Miller lowered her own 200-yard butterfly school record (1:58.25) to give her another NCAA qualifying mark. She also carved a new record in the 500-yard freestyle with a swim of 4:43.07. She now has her name headlining five events – 200-yard butterfly, 500- and 1,650-yard freestyles, and the 200- and 400-yard individual medleys – in Kansas’ all-time swimming records, no other Jayhawk owns more.

Miller also competed in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the NCAA meet in 2014 and 2015.

Kansas had six additional Jayhawks – Haley Bishop, Bryce Hinde, Yulya Kuchkarova, Pia Pavlic, Sammie Schurig and Libby Walker  – under consideration after swimming competitive times throughout the year. Miller was the only Jayhawk to receive an invitation.

The NCAA Championship meet will be held in Atlanta, Georgia March 17-19.
