Four Jayhawks advance to ITA Summer Circuit quarterfinals

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas returnees Nina Khmelnitckaia and Janet Koch, as well as incoming freshmen, Julia Deming and Malkia Ngounoue, each posted perfect singles marks Saturday during day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Summer Circuit at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
 
With the combined 6-0 singles record, the Jayhawks claimed half of the eight quarterfinal spots in the bracket.
 
After a first-round bye, Khmelnitckaia won her first match of the day 6-2, 6-4 over Francesca Trella.Koch only dropped a total of four games in her two matches topping Bianca Rademacher, 6-3, 6-0, and Jacqueline Cochrane, 6-0, 6-1. Deming, also opened with a bye, before advancing to the quarterfinals with a 6-7 (9-11), 6-3, 10-4 win over Kate Miley. Lastly, Ngounoue, the No. 1 seed, defeated Taylor Jackson, 6-0, 6-1, and Emily Kolbow, 6-1, 6-4, to advance to the quarterfinals.
 
Action continues Sunday at the Jayhawk Tennis Center with the women’s singles quarterfinals starting at 9 a.m.
