Jayhawks Continue to Dominate at 2016 ITA Summer Circuit

LAWRENCE, Kan. — It will be an all-Jayhawk final in both the women’s singles and doubles championship matches at the 2016 ITA Summer Circuit as Kansas dominated the field in both . Playing on their home courts for one last time before the opening of the Jayhawk Tennis Center at Rock Chalk Park, Kansas players continued their strong summer during Sunday’s quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. 
 
Sophomore Nina Khmelnitckaia will face fellow sophomore Janet Koch in the singles final as Khmelnitckaia got by her KU teammate, junior Summer Collins, 7-6, 6-2 in the quarterfinals before ousting Jayhawk senior Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum, 6-3, 6-4, in the semifinals. Koch advanced after winning over fellow KU sophomore Anastasia Rychagova in the quarterfinals. Rychagova was forced to withdraw due to injury. Koch then defeated Cassidy Spearman, 6-3, 6-4. Khmelnitckaia and Koch will face off in the finals Monday at 8 a.m.
 
After going up against each other in the singles title match, Khmelnitckaia and Koch will join forces for the doubles championship match. The duo defeated Alexis Czapinski and Logan Morrissey in the doubles semifinals, 8-3. They will take on their Jayhawk teammates Bernard-Feigenbaum and Rychagova, who advanced after defeating KU’s duo composed of Collins and freshman Tatiana Nikolaeva, 8-5. The quartet of Jayhawks will play for the doubles title at 10:30 a.m., Monday.
