Jayhawks duo off to 1-0 to start at Riviera ITA

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Kansas senior Anastasia Rychagova and freshman Sonia Smagina were victorious Tuesday in the qualifying bracket at the Riviera ITA All-American Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club.

KU’s duo teamed up to defeat Vanderbilt’s Amanda Meyer and Christina Rosca, 8-6, in the first round.
 
With the win, the Jayhawks’ doubles team will play again on Wednesday and will need to win two more matches in order to advance to the main draw of the tournament.

Rychagova and Smagina will take on the No. 26-ranked doubles team in Pepperdine’s Ashley Lahey and Evgeniya Levashova in the second round. Play begins Wednesday, Oct. 3 at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California, at 10 a.m., local time.
