Jayhawks land at No. 15; Rychagova back to No. 1 in ITA Poll

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Kansas women’s tennis team entered the polls at No. 15 for the first time this season as reported by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Tuesday, February 20.
 
In the newest top-50 rankings, the Jayhawks (4-2) are making their first appearance on the list after winning four-straight matches, including two over ranked teams. KU defeated then ranked No. 18 Arkansas, 4-3, during ITA Kick-Off Weekend and No. T24 Oregon, 4-1, February 16.
 
Kansas is joined by five other Big 12 programs on the ITA list, with Texas Tech (8), Oklahoma State (13), Texas (16), Kansas State (35) and TCU (46). Overall, 13 of the Jayhawks’ 19 opponents found a spot in this week’s rankings.
 
For the second time this season, junior Anastasia Rychagova tops the singles list as the No. 1-ranked player in the nation. Currently, Rychagova holds a 14-2 record, including a perfect 4-0 in dual-match play. She also has an impressive 9-1 record against ranked opponents.
 
Rychagova is joined in the singles poll by senior Despoina Vogasari who is listed at the No. 77 spot. Vogasari’s overall record is 14-8 with an even 3-3 record in dual play. She earned her first win against a ranked opponent this season on February 18 in straight sets over then ranked No. 120 Clara Tenielian of William & Mary.
 
In doubles, junior Nina Khmelnitckaia and Rychagova landed at No. 29. The duo has tallied a 9-3 mark this season, including 2-1 records in both dual matches and against ranked competitors. The Jayhawk pair defeated Oregon’s No. 10-ranked team of Shweta Sangwan and Alyssa Tobita, 6-3, on February 16. This is the highest Rychagova has been ranked on the doubles list so far in her career.
