Kansas Set to Host 2016 ITA Summer Circuit

LAWRENCE, Kan. – For the sixth consecutive year the University of Kansas will host the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) 2016 ITA Summer Circuit. The tournament is being held at the Jayhawk Tennis Center located at 5200 Clinton Parkway. Matches will begin Saturday, July 16, and will run through Monday, July 18. Admission is free.

A total of 50 tournaments spread across 24 states are included in this year’s Summer Circuit, up from 34 in 2015. KU is hosting in the fourth leg of the six-week long event.

“We are very excited the Intercollegiate Tennis Association has chosen the University of Kansas to host one of the ITA Summer Circuit tournaments,” head coach Todd Chapman said. “Last year we had close to 100 female and male student athletes from all over the US come and play our event and we hope to continue to grow the tournament here at KU. It is great for our local universities and our community to have high level tennis in Lawrence.”

The ITA Summer Circuit provides an opportunity for college players, incoming freshmen, recent college graduates and junior players who are ITA members to compete in the summer months. Since 1993 the event has allowed nearly 30,000 players to compete at the regional level.

Open singles and doubles action will qualify players for points. Regional winners advance to the ITA Summer Nationals in Bloomington, Indiana, August 13-16 at Indiana University.
