KU sends three to ITA National Fall Championships

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas tennis is sending three student-athletes to the prestigious ITA National Fall Championships tournament in Surprise, Arizona, this week. Matches begin Wednesday, Nov. 7 at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex.
 
Jayhawk seniors Nina Khmelnitckaia and Janet Koch, along with junior Maria Toran Ribes, are set to compete in the tournament’s singles main draw. The Kansas tandem of Khmelnitckaia and Koch will also pair up in the doubles portion of the tournament.
 
In the first round of the tournament Wednesday, Toran Ribes matches up against the No. 4-ranked player in the country preseason, Pepperdine’s Ashley Lahey. KU’s Koch, ranked No. 124 preseason, will take on Vanderbilt’s Christina Rosca, who is ranked No. 30 it the ITA preseason poll. Khmelnitckaia comes in at No. 106 in the preseason singles poll and she will face off against No. 92-ranked Ole Miss Rebel Tea Jandric. The Round of 64 singles matches for all three Jayhawks begins Wednesday morning at 8 a.m., local time.

In the round of 32 doubles, Khmelnickaia and Koch will battle the No. 8 doubles team of Arizona State’s Iize Hattingh and Lauryn John Baptise at 3 p.m., local time Wednesday.
 
Live scoring will be available for the tournament here. The final matches of the singles and doubles championships, to be played Sunday, Nov. 11, will be live streamed on ESPN3 and the ESPN App.
