No. 12 Kansas readies for two weekend matches

LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 12 Kansas tennis hosts two matches this weekend at the Jayhawk Tennis Center at Rock Chalk Park. The Jayhawks face Tulsa Saturday at noon and Rice Sunday at noon. Admission is free, and free pizza will be available to fans in attendance; there will also be a serving contest between sets and a $50 gift card giveaway.
 
Live scoring and streaming will be available during both matches, as well as updates on KU tennis’ social media platforms.
 
Kansas trails in the all-time series against Tulsa, 15-12-1. The Jayhawks won the last meeting, 6-1, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, last season.
 
Tulsa reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament last season, finishing 23-6 and ranked No. 19 in the country. The Golden Hurricane come to Lawrence with a record of 7-4, including wins against Arkansas, Louisiana Tech, Oral Roberts (twice), Wyoming, Arkansas–Pine Bluff and Central Arkansas.
 
This will be the first meeting between Kansas and Rice. Rice ended last season ranked No. 44 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) with a record of 15-9. The Owls arrive in Lawrence with a 5-2 record, with victories over Kansas State, TCU, Lamar, Sam Houston State and Texas A&M- Corpus Christi.
 
“We have two formidable teams coming to town this weekend; we will definitely be tested to see where we are at this point in the season,” said Kansas head coach Todd Chapman. “Both Tulsa and Rice are perennial NCAA Tournament teams, and Tulsa was a Sweet 16 team last year. We are excited about the challenge and opportunities we will face this weekend.”
 
The Jayhawks have been idle since defeating Nebraska, 4-1, Feb. 6 at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. The Jayhawks are now 4-1, with victories over Northwestern (currently No. 11 in the nation), then-No. 18 Illinois, Wichita State and Nebraska.
