No. 16 Jayhawks ranked for ninth-consecutive week

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Kansas women’s tennis team lands at No. 16 in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) top-50 rankings as announced by the office Tuesday afternoon.

KU moved up one spot from last week’s No. 17 position after defeating then-ranked No. 36 Kansas State, 4-1. The new poll now marks nine-straight weeks the Jayhawks have found themselves in the top-20.

Junior Nina Khmelnitckaia and sophomore Tatiana Nikolaeva come in as the No. 76-ranked doubles team this week, marking Nikolaeva’s highest ranking of her career. Since teaming back up this season, the duo is 3-0 at the Jayhawks’ top spot.

Senior Despoina Vogasari is ranked as the No. 68 individual on the top-125 singles list. She has tallied a 23-9 overall record, including 12-4 in dual play. Vogasari is also on a nine-match win streak, the longest of her collegiate career.

Kansas junior Anastasia Rychagova also earned a spot in the singles rankings at the No. 6 slot. Since being named the No. 1-ranked player in the nation, for the first time, on November 15, 2017, Rychagova has remained in the ITA’s top-10 individuals.

Rychagova and Khmelnitckaia also find themselves ranked as doubles team at the No. 14 spot. The tandem owns an 8-2 dual-match record when competing at the No. 1 position for the Jayhawks.
