No. 16 Jayhawks ranked for seventh-straight week

TEMPE, Ariz. – Kansas sophomore Tatiana Nikolaeva earned her first-career ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as announced by the office Tuesday afternoon.
 
Nikolaeva comes in as the No. 83 doubles team with junior partner Nina Khmelnitckaia. Since teaming up this spring, they are 1-3 in duals with their most recent win coming against the No. 8-ranked team of Sarah Dvorak and Sabrina Federici of Texas Tech.
 
Khmelnitckaia is also ranked with fellow junior Anastasia Rychagova at the No. 14 spot. Tuesday’s honor marks the highest either have been named on the doubles list so far.
 
In singles, Khmelnitckaia finds herself in this week’s polls for a third time as the No. 116 individual. She sits at a 19-8 overall record, including 10-4 in duals and is on an eight-match win streak. This season, Khmelnitckaia has clinched three matches for the Jayhawks. 
 
Senior Despoina Vogasari jumped up to the No. 66 position after earning a career-high win against No. 11-ranked Gabriela Talaba from Texas Tech. She is also 10-4 in dual matches and has a 21-9 overall mark. 
 
Rychagova is currently the No. 7-ranked singles player in the nation with an 8-1 dual-play mark and 18-3 overall, including 11-2 against ranked opponents.
 
The team had last weekend off and stayed at the No. 16 spot. This is now the seventh-consecutive week Kansas has appeared on the ITA’s top-20 list.
