Denton, Texas – Kansas doubles team of Anastasia Rychagova and Maria Toran Ribes won their fifth-straight doubles match to propel the Jayhawks to a 4-0 neutral site win over Columbia Saturday at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
Playing at the No. 3 spot, Rychagova and Toran Ribes improved to 5-0 after topping the Lion’s duo of Renee Ren and Sarah Hu, 6-2, and giving Kansas the doubles point. The pair also went on to win both of their singles matches. No. 74-ranked Rychagova defeated Alexandra Solovyev, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 1 spot. The victory moved Rychagova to 9-1 in spring play and 20-5 overall. On court five, Toran Ribes downed Adi Milstein, 6-1, 6-3, to give Kansas the match winning point.
“I thought we competed in a very businesslike fashion (Saturday),” said head coach Todd Chapman. “We played with good energy and focus throughout the match.”
The No. 50-ranked pair of Nina Khmelnitckaia and Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum snapped a three-match losing streak after cruising to a 6-1 win over Columbia’s Milstein and Solovyev on court one. The duo is now 11-4 in spring play and 17-7 overall. Playing at the No. 4 singles spot, Khmelnitckaia won her third-consecutive match after topping Rima Asatrain, 6-2, 6-3, and improved to 10-2 in spring play and 16-6 overall.
“We will now start focusing on playing a talented North Texas team (Sunday),” said Chapman.
The Jayhawks will play North Texas at 12 p.m., Sunday at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
