THE BASELINE
Kansas will host No. 46 Baylor in its Big 12 Conference opener Wednesday, March 9. The 23rd-ranked Jayhawks and Baylor will face off at the Jayhawk Tennis Center at 2:30 p.m. KU enters the match with an 8-2 overall record after splitting a pair of matches against No. 50 SMU (W, 6-1) and No. 58 Denver (L, 4-3) in its most recent outings.
 
THE SERIES: KANSAS vs. BAYLOR
Baylor (4-9, 0-0 Big 12), leads the all-time series with Kansas (8-2, 0-0 Big 12), 21-4. The last match-up between the two schools was in 2015 when the Bears blanked the Jayhawks, 4-0, in Waco.
 
SCOUTING THE LADY BEARS
Baylor, who is currently ranked 46th, enters Wednesday’s match at KU with a 4-9 mark. Last season, the Lady Bears finished No. 8 in the country, after producing a 28-7 record and making the NCAA quarterfinals. Individually, the Lady Bear duo of Kiah Generette and Blair Shankle are ranked the 15th-best doubles tandem in the country. The pairing went 4-1 in fall collegiate play with victories over the country’s No. 35 and No. 36 duos and their only loss was to the nation’s seventh-best pairing.
 
JAYHAWKS IN BIG 12 OPENERS
Kansas has produced a 7-11 record all-time in Big 12 Conference openers. The Jayhawks dropped a 4-0 decision to Texas Tech in Lawrence last season in its first conference match. KU’s most recent win in its Big 12 opener came in 2014 with a 6-1 win at Iowa State.
 
UP NEXT
KU will be on the road for only the second time this season to face off with Tulane (March12) and Houston (March 13) in Houston, Texas. The Jayhawks will then return home to take on their next Big 12 competitor, Texas, on March 18 at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
