No. 8 Jayhawks prepare for two ranked opponents

LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 8 Kansas tennis hosts two matches this weekend at the Jayhawk Tennis Center at Rock Chalk Park. The Jayhawks face No. 41 Arkansas Saturday at noon and No. 44 Air Force Sunday at noon.

Admission is free, and free pizza will be available to fans in attendance. In addition, Sunday the Jayhawk Tennis Center will be having a “Picnic Day,” complete with a photo booth and “A Minute to Win it Challenge” will be contested.  

Live scoring and streaming will be available during both matches, as well as updates on KU tennis’ social media platforms.

Kansas trails the all-time series against Arkansas, 13-9. The Jayhawks bested the Razorbacks last season on a neutral court, 4-3. Arkansas finished the 2017-18 season with a 16-16 record and ranked No. 35 in the nation. The Razorbacks come into Lawrence with a 7-3 record so far this spring, including wins against Oklahoma State, Kennesaw State and Pine Bluff (twice each), Saint Louis and ULM.
 
This will be the first-ever meeting between Kansas and Air Force. The Falcons finished last season with a record of 14-7. Air Force arrives in Lawrence undefeated at 12-0, including notable wins against Nebraska, Creighton, Colorado and Army West Point.
 
“We are competing against two top-50 opponents this weekend, so we definitely will have our work cut out for us,” said Kansas head coach Todd Chapman. “We have two great opportunities to improve and be tested. We look forward to a competitive weekend of tennis.”
 
The No. 8-ranked Jayhawks’ strong performance last weekend, gaining victories over Tulsa and Rice, propelled Kansas to a record of 6-1. So far this spring season, Kansas has recorded wins over Northwestern (currently No. 10 in the nation), then-No. 18 Illinois, Wichita State, Nebraska, Tulsa (currently No. 46) and Rice (currently No. 45).
