Rychagova named co-Big 12 Player of the Week

LAWRENCE, Kan. – After accumulating a 3-0 record at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend this past Friday and Saturday in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Kansas senior Anastasia Rychagova has been named the co-Big 12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. The Moscow, Russia, native’s perfect record during the tournament consisted of one singles victory and two doubles wins.

Rychagova’s co-Big 12 Player of the Week award is the second of the 2019 season for Kansas tennis. Jayhawk sophomore Plobrung Plipuech earned the first Big 12 Player of the Week award of 2019 on Jan. 25 after her own perfect record (4-0) at the Orlando Invitational. This is the fourth time in Rychagova’s career she has been honored by the league with a weekly award; she was also Big 12 Player of the Week on Feb. 20, 2018, Feb. 3, 2016, and March 16, 2016.

On the opening day of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, the nation’s No. 27-ranked doubles team of Rychagova and Kansas freshman Sonia Smagina bested Illinois’ Jaclyn Switkes and Emilee Duong, 6-1.

On day two, Rychagova and Smagina defeated Oklahoma State’s Lisa Marie Rioux and Marina Guinart, 6-2. Rychagova then defeated Oklahoma State’s Bunywai Thamchaiwat, 7-5, 7-5, to round out her weekend.
