The Jayhawks head to Minneapolis for ITA Central Regionals

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The entire Kansas women’s tennis team will travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota for the ITA Regional Championships Presented by Oracle Thursday, October 13 to Monday, October 17.

The winners of both singles and doubles at the ITA Regional Championships will receive an at-large bid to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championships.

The Jayhawks, who are in the Central region, will be joined by 26 other schools. Of the 26, they will face eight of them again in spring dual matches in both nonconference and Big 12 play.

“We are excited to see how we measure up with the teams in our region,” said head coach Todd Chapman. “We should be pushed this week and see where we are making strides and also where we need to keep developing.”

Each member of the KU tennis team will play singles and doubles. The doubles teams will be Anastasia Rychagova and Janet Koch, Tatiana Nikolaeva and Maria Toran Ribes and Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum and Nina Khmelnitckaia.

Rychagova leads the way in singles play with a 5-1 mark during the fall season with her only loss coming at the 2016 Riviera ITA Women’s All-American Championship qualifying final where she felt short in a three-set match.

Last season, KU saw great success at the ITA Regional Championship, with Rychagova finishing as the singles runner-up.

Toran Ribes and Khmelnitckaia will kick off the weekend with singles play Thursday, October 13 at 9:30 a.m.
