Three Jayhawks head to Tuscaloosa for the weekend

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Junior Summer Collins will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to make her fall debut at the 29th Roberta Alison Fall Classic Friday and Saturday at the Alabama Tennis Stadium.

“Summer (Collins), being her first fall tournament, will be getting some competition and the chance to get to play – I know she’s excited about that,” said head coach Todd Chapman. “We’re excited that she’s finally able to play this fall. As in all fall tournaments, it’s an opportunity to go out and compete.”

Joining Collins will be two freshmen, Maria Toran Ribes and Tatiana Nikolaeva. The duo was pushed at the ITA Central Regional going 3-1 in doubles play as well as earning 4-1 records in respective singles matches.

“Our goal is to build on the regional tournament,” said Chapman. “To continue to improve throughout this tournament, our hope is to figure out what we’re doing well and what we need to work on to prepare for the spring season.”

Last year, doubles pair Janet Koch and Nina Khmelnitckaia were the only Jayhawks to make the trip to Tuscaloosa. The duo ended the tournament with a winning doubles record of 2-1.

In addition to the host Crimson Tide, 15 other teams are slated to compete this weekend.

Action is set to get underway at 9 a.m., CT Friday with the first round of doubles followed by the first round of singles.
