Three Jayhawks invited to ITA All-American

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Anastasia Rychagova, Nina Khmelnitckaia and Despoina Vogasari will represent Kansas in Pacific Palisades, California at the prestigious Riviera ITA Women’s All-American Championship at the Riviera Tennis Club. The entire event runs from September 30 to October 8.

Ranked No. 35 in the preseason singles poll, junior Rychagova earned an automatic bid in the singles qualifying bracket. In doubles, Rychagova and fellow junior Khmelnitckaia, who are ranked as the No. 37 doubles team, earned a spot in the doubles qualifying bracket.

“The ITA All-American is one of the biggest tournaments of the year,” said head coach Todd Chapman. “Having at least two players in the qualifying rounds is a big deal. Nastia (Rychagova) and Nina have worked really hard to be prepared for this event. The opportunity to play in this tournament is a big honor and we’re excited to see what kind of success they have.”

Senior transfer Vogasari is set to play in the singles prequalifying bracket, which will take place September 30 to October 1. Qualifying rounds will be October 3 to 4, with the main draw running from October 5 to 8.

“We are happy for Debbie (Vogasari) that she will get one more opportunity to compete at the ITA All-American Championship,” said Chapman. “Debbie has worked hard since joining us this summer and we look forward to her having a great senior season.”

Last year’s invite was a first for Kansas since 2007. Rychagova made it to the final round of the singles qualifying bracket, but ultimately fell short. She paired up with former teammate Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum to play in the doubles prequalifying bracket. Khmelnitckaia and Janet Koch competed in doubles qualifying, while Koch and Bernard-Feigenbaum had spots in the singles prequalifying bracket, but did not advance.
