Two KU netters tabbed for 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Team
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sophomores Anastasia Rychagova and Nina Khmelnitckaia were named to the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Tennis Team, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
Rychagova, an International Business major, earned first team honors, while Khmelnitckaia, majoring in Sports Management, was selected to the second team.
“I’m really proud of Nastia (Rychagova) and Nina for getting recognition for the hard work they’re displaying, not only on the court, but in the classroom,” said head coach Todd Chapman. “It’s great when you have student-athletes that can succeed in both spots. It shows how serious they take their academics. I think it’s fantastic that they’re being honored.”
With the recognition, Rychagova and Khmelnitckaia became the seventh and eighth KU Academic All-Big 12 honorees in Chapman’s four years at Kansas.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
