Vogasari and Rychagova upended at fall nationals

PALM DESERT, Calif. – Kansas senior Despoina Vogasari and junior Anastasia Rychagova’s time at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships came to an end after a pair of losses Thursday at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort and Spa.

Despite having a 4-2 lead in the first set and winning 21 of her 26 first serve points in the second, Vogasari was not able to overcome No. 16-seeded Leolia Jeanjean of Arkansas and ultimately fell, 6-4, 6-3.

“(Thursday) didn’t go the way we had hoped it would and we have two very disappointed players,” said head coach Todd Chapman. “Nastia (Rychagova) and Debbie (Vogasari) have played really well this fall and I know they will both use (Thursday) as motivation over the next couple of months as we train for our spring season.”

Facing Andrea Lazaro of Florida International for the second time this fall, No. 10-seeded Rychagova was unable to improve her record to 2-0 against the Panther. Rychagova dropped the match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
