Vogasari goes 1-1 at ITA All-American

Pacific Palisades, Calif. – Kansas senior transfer Despoina Vogasari’s run at the Riviera ITA Women’s All-American Championship came to an end after she dropped her second singles match Saturday at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California.

Vogasari began the day by topping Caroline Daxhelet of Virginia Tech, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. In her second match of the day, Vogasari was not able to overcome Harvard’s Erica Oosterhout, falling 7-5, 6-2.

“Debbie (Vogasari) competed hard in her first match (Saturday),” said assistant coach Caroline Lilley. “She faced a lot of adversity, which will only help her develop the match toughness she needs for the spring. Having taken last year off, she needs to be patient with herself and continue to buy into the process of daily improvement.

“She has come a long way since June and although I know she’s incredibly disappointed about the result this afternoon, I am grateful she played someone who pushed her outside of her comfort zone. As she moves forward with her fall season, this match will be one she can learn a lot from and will assuredly help her grow as a player, competitor and leader.”

Up next, junior Anastasia Rychagova will play in the singles qualifying draw as well as the doubles qualifying draw with fellow junior Nina Khmelnitckaia. Qualifying play begins Tuesday, October 3.
