Al Hizam named to Google Cloud Academic All-America Second Team

AUSTIN, Texas – The 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-America Men’s Cross Country/Track & Field teams, selected by CoSIDA, were announced by the organization on Thursday, with Kansas track & field junior Hussain Al Hizam earning NCAA Division I Second Team honors.
 
Al Hizam notched a 3.50 GPA during the 2017-18 academic year while pursuing a degree in finance. While maintaining good grade in the classroom, Al Hizam was able to win the 2018 NCAA Division I indoor men’s pole vault title, both the indoor and outdoor Big 12 Championship crowns in the men’s pole vault and earn First Team All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a fifth-place finish in the vault.
 
To be eligible for Google Cloud Academic All-America consideration, student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
 
Al Hizam earned Academic All-America Third Team honors last season.
 
Although the 2018 NCAA season is finished, Al Hizam will be competing for his home country of Saudi Arabia at the 2018 Asian Games, August 18-September 2, in Indonesia. Al Hizam is Saudi Arabia national record holder in both indoors and outdoors in the pole vault.
