Al Hizam to compete at 2018 Asian Games

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas track & field senior pole vaulter Hussain Al Hizam will compete for his home country of Saudi Arabia at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia on August 29.
 
The Saudi Arabian national record holder in both the indoor and outdoor pole vault, Al Hizam is scheduled to compete in the 13-athlete field at 6:40 p.m. CDT on Wednesday.
 
Al Hizam won the 2018 NCAA Indoor National Championship in the pole vault, breaking the Kansas school record and the Saudi indoor national record with a clearance of 5.70 meters (18-8.25 ft.). He went on to win the Big 12 Outdoor Championship by setting a meet record and Saudi outdoor national record with a mark of 5.63 meters (18-5.5 ft.), and later tied for fifth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to earn First Team All-America honors.
