Evans set for British Athletics Championships

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas track & field freshman George Evans will be competing in the Mueller British Athletics Championships, set for June 30-July 1 at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
 
Evans will compete in both the discus and the shot put on Saturday, June 30. The discus is the first event of the Championships, scheduled for 5:45 a.m. CDT (11:45 a.m. GMT+1) and the shot put is slated to begin at 10:40 a.m. CDT (4:40 p.m. GMT+1).
 
The freshman from Inverness, Scotland will look to improve his standing on the KU all-time list in the discus and hopes to grab a top-10 spot in the shot put, after having a successful rookie campaign at Kansas.
 
Evans currently sits at No. 8 in the discus in program history with a mark of 58.67 meters (192-6 ft.) at the Big 12 Championships in Waco, Texas, which earned him a silver medal. His personal best in the shot put from his freshman season came at the National Relay Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where he recorded a mark of 15.86 meters (52-0.5 ft.).
 
GRIFFITHS SET FOR DECATHLON AT WOMEN’S OPEN DECATHLON CHAMPIONSHIP
Kansas junior Morgan Griffiths is competing the in the decathlon in Grass Valley, California, June 30-July 1. The meet, which is billed as the Masters Combined Events Championships and Women’s Open Decathlon Championship, will feature a women’s decathlon, which is different than the normal heptathlon women compete in the outdoor season.
