Jayhawks close regular season at Ward Haylett Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas track & field will travel west on Interstate 70 to Manhattan, Kansas to compete in the Ward Haylett Invitational. The one-day meet, which is slated to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, will be the Jayhawks’ last chance to prepare for the Big 12 Outdoor Championship in Waco, Texas, May 11-13.
 
Nearly 40 Kansas student-athletes are slated to compete at the R.V. Christian Track Complex in hopes of improving their marks prior to the start of postseason meets later this month, specifically those sitting on the qualifying bubble for the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Sacramento, California, May 24-26.
 
The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the men’s 5,000-meter run. Field events are scheduled to kick off at 11:30 a.m. with the women’s javelin, and the last scheduled event of the day is the men’s 200-meter dash, slated for a 3:05 p.m. start.
 
The Kansas men will have athletes competing in eight events; the 200 meters (3:05 p.m.), 400 meters (2:20 p.m.), 800 meters (2:35 p.m.), 5,000 meters (11 a.m.), 110-meter hurdles (2:05 p.m.), 400-meter hurdles (2:50 p.m.), pole vault (2 p.m.) and long jump (noon).
 
Kansas’ women’s squad has athletes entered in the 200 meters (3 p.m.), 400 meters (2:15 p.m.), 800 meters (2:30 p.m.), 1,500 meters (1:40 p.m.), 100-meter hurdles (2 p.m.), pole vault (noon), triple jump (2 p.m.) and shot put (12:15 p.m.).

The Jayhawks will travel to Waco, Texas for the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championship, May 11-13. Following the conclusion of the conference championship weekend, any Kansas athletes ranked in the top-48 in their respective events in the West region will qualify for the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Sacramento, California, May 24-26. From there, any athletes that finish in the top-12 at the West prelims will qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, June 6-9.
