Kansas men No. 16, women No. 18 in week 7 USTFCCCA poll

NEW ORLEANS – The Kansas men’s and women’s track & field teams improved their standings in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association weekly polls following a successful weekend that saw both the Jayhawk teams finish tied for third at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship. The KU men rose one spot to No. 16, while the Jayhawk women went up 12 spots to No. 18, announced by the organization on Monday.

The No. 16 Kansas men’s team garnered two individual conference championships over the weekend, with sophomore Gleb Dudarev winning the hammer throw for the second-straight year and junior Hussain Al Hizam earning his third-straight conference gold in the pole vault, including this year’s indoor title and last season’s outdoor championship.

Kansas’ women finished with three conference titles, including two from senior Sharon Lokedi. Lokedi became just the second athlete in conference history to win both the 5,000 and 10,000-meter crowns in back-to-back years. Freshman thrower Alexandra Emilianov won the Big 12 discus title on her way to breaking the KU school record in the event.

The Jayhawks will next compete at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Sacramento, California, May 24-26. The official entries list for the West Prelims will be released on Thursday, May 17. To qualify for the preliminary round, athletes must be in the top-48 of their respective event in the West region.
