Lokedi to compete at Millrose Games on Saturday

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior Sharon Lokedi is set to run the Fred Lebow women’s 3,000-meter race at the prestigious Millrose Games on Saturday, February 9 in Manhattan’s Washington Heights at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory. The 3,000-meter run is set to begin at 3:36 p.m. CST.

Beginning in 1908, the Millrose Games started as a small event sponsored by a local track club and has grown to one of the most prestigious events in the United States for indoor track and field.

Athletes from all over, ranging from professional to collegiate to high school, travel to New York City to compete against the best talent in the nation.

Lokedi is one of three collegiate athletes running the 3,000-meters with the remaining 11 athletes competing at the professional level. The 3,000-meter run alone features athletes from five different countries, including the United States, Eritrea, Kenya, Canada and Jamaica.

Saturday’s race marks the first time that Lokedi will run the 3,000 meters this season. The Eldoret, Kenya native is the defending Big 12 Champion in the event and earned First Team All-America honors in the 3,000 meters at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Fans can follow Lokedi’s race at the Millrose games on usatf.tv or via live results at results.nyrrmillrosegames.org.

The rest of the Kansas track and field team is competing at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa or the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, February 8-9.
