Two Jayhawks set for IAAF World U20 Championships in Finland

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Two Kansas track & field athletes will be in Tampere, Finland to represent their home countries for the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships, set to take place at Tampere Stadium, July 10-15.
 
Alexandra Emilianov, a freshman on the 2018 Kansas track & field team, will be representing Moldova in Tampere, competing in the women’s discus. Emilianov was the 2018 Big 12 Conference champion in the event, where she recorded a personal-best mark of 60.24 meters (197-8 ft.) to break the KU school record. She also qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships where she earned Second Team All-America honors with a 12th-place finish.
 
Emilianov will compete in the Qualification Group A on July 10 at 4:45 p.m. local time (8:45 a.m. CDT), and the final is set for July 12 at 7:35 p.m. local time (11:35 a.m. CDT).
 
Incoming Kansas freshman Zach Bradford will represent the United States when he competes in the pole vault at Tampere Stadium. Bradford hails from Bloomington, Illinois and is coming off a successful prep career at Bloomington High School. He was the 2018 IHSA 3A Boys State Track & Field champion in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.34 meters (17-6 ft.) and posted a personal-best clearance of 5.55 meters (18-2.5 ft.) to win the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships in Bloomington, Indiana on June 15.
 
Bradford is scheduled to compete on Wednesday, July 11 at 5 p.m. local time (9 a.m. CDT) in the qualification round and if he makes it through to the final he will compete again on Saturday, July 14 at 1:50 p.m. in Tampere (5:50 a.m. CDT).
