Kansas falls to No. 16 Kentucky, 3-2

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kansas volleyball team lost in five sets to No. 16 Kentucky on Saturday evening inside Memorial Coliseum, 3-2 (25-16, 25-15, 17-15, 11-25, 8-15).

The Jayhawks (3-2) came out on fire to win the first two sets in dominating fashion, but the Wildcats (3-3) clawed back to force KU to play its fourth five-set match of the season. Kentucky closed the match with a 15-8 score in the deciding set to capture the Bluegrass Battle tournament title.

Junior outside hitters Jada Burse and Ashley Smith led the Jayhawks with 14 kills apiece and were named to the Bluegrass Battle All-Tournament Team following the match. Lacey Angello notched her third 20-dig performance of her young career to lead KU’s back row of passers.

Freshman defensive specialist Audri Suter came off the bench to give Kansas a big lift in the second set, zipping three aces during a 5-0 Jayhawk run on the way to a 25-15 second-set victory. Due in large part to Suter’s trio of aces, Kansas posted a plus-four ratio for service aces-to-errors on Saturday with eight aces and four service errors.
