LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas volleyball will offer multiple chances for up-and-coming student-athletes to learn from four-time Big 12 Coach of the Year Ray Bechard, his coaching staff and the rest of the Big 12 Conference champion Jayhawks this summer as the program released the 2017 camp dates.

For individuals grades sixth through 12 looking to sharpen their game, KU will host position clinics for hitters (May 30) and another focused on defensive specialists, liberos and setters (May 31) inside the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. The Jayhawks will also host two sessions of overnight skills camps, the first from June 1-3 and the second from July 7-9.

The emphasis of the individual skills camps revolves around teaching and developing the fundamental techniques of volleyball, as well as game strategies. Basic skills are stressed in drills, while team play is incorporated to teach how all the fundamentals fit in the game.

Campers will be evaluated in all skills and receive a camp notebook detailing the camp’s training methods. Skills camps are open to athletes entering grades 6-12 in the of Fall 2017. Campers will compete in the equivalent of 10 league and tournament matches. Each league team will be assigned a camp staff member to help facilitate all the skills learned throughout the camp.

Overnight campers stay in Naismith Hall, a dorm located on campus just 100 yards from HFAC. Athletes are allowed to pick their own roommates.
