Wait named to CoSIDA Academic All-District VII Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Kansas volleyball senior Cassie Wait was recognized for her well-balanced contributions to the fourth-ranked Jayhawks on the court and in the classroom on Thursday as CoSIDA named the dynamic libero to the Academic All-District VII First Team.

Wait is currently in her first year in KU’s School of Law while balancing her role as a third-year starter for the Jayhawks. The Gardner, Kansas native earned her undergrad business degree in three years, graduating in May 2016 with a 3.90 GPA. Wait is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree and member of the University of Kansas Honors Program.

Wait played an integral part in leading Kansas to its first-ever Final Four appearance in 2015, and this season her performance has risen to another level. With five regular-season matches remaining, Wait leads the Big 12 in digs per set (5.18) and ranks second in career digs at Kansas (1,807).

The three-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week is coming off her third 30-dig performance of the season last night as Kansas improved to 21-2 and 10-1 league play with a five-set victory over Kansas State. KU is currently in a tie for first place in Big 12 standings with No. 5 Texas.

The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. CoSIDA’s Academic All-District VII includes student-athletes who compete for institutions in the states of Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming.
