Engelman Leads ICIM Arad to Romanian Cup Title

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Former Kansas women’s basketball player Monica Engelman scored 19 points and helped ICIM Arad defeat sf.Gheorghe, 67-61, for the Romanian Cup Title on Thursday afternoon.

Engelman, who played for the Jayhawks from 2009-13, signed with ICIM Arad at the beginning of the 2013-14 season after graduating from the University of Kansas.

With ICIM Arad, Engelman has played in 26 games, averaged 21.5 minutes per game and guided the team to a 25-1 record. She is averaging 11.3 points per game while shooting 57 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc. Engelman has also registered 87 rebounds, 58 assists and 43 steals.

At KU, Engelman helped the Jayhawks to back-to-back NCAA Sweet 16 appearances in 2012 and 2013. She started every game during her senior campaign and became the 25th Jayhawk in program history to score over 1,000 points. Engelman scored a season-best 27 points against South Carolina in the Second Round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Engelman averaged 9.9 points per game during her senior season at Kansas.
