Jayhawks Hit the Links for a Cause

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Clear skies and sunshine greeted participants of the inaugural Brandon Schneider Golf Tournament at Alvamar Golf and Country Club on Saturday afternoon. Schneider, who is in his first year at the helm of the Kansas women’s basketball program, hosted the event in support of the Jayhawks and the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Breast Center.

With a new coaching staff and nine new faces on KU’s roster this upcoming season, Saturday’s event on the links was the perfect opportunity to not only get to know the new Jayhawks, but also raise money and awareness for a great cause.

“It’s great to be out here raising money for two causes,” said head coach Brandon Schneider. “One, obviously, our women’s basketball program, but more importantly we are raising money for Lawrence Memorial Hospital so they can provide breast cancer services to women in our community.”

Prior to starting the scramble, participants were able to visit with Schneider and the 2015-16 women’s basketball team. Participants also had a chance to look over silent auction and raffle items, while fueling up for the afternoon with lunch.

The event had nearly 40 four-person teams play 18 holes. Following a day on the golf course, participants headed to the clubhouse at Alvamar to conclude the festivities with dinner and a live auction. Some of the big ticket items included a round of golf with Schneider, dinner for up to eight with Schneider and the opportunity to travel with KU women’s basketball to a Big 12 Conference game.

At the end of the fun-filled day on the greens, prizes were awarded to the best men’s and women’s teams, best mixed team, longest drive, closest to the pin and hole-in-one.

“My favorite part of the day is being able to be around the donors and getting to interact with everyone who supports us,” said junior forward Caelynn Manning-Allen. “It’s fun to see new faces and catch up with people who have been around the program for awhile.”

Season tickets are on sale now and start at just $69 for a full season of basketball action in Allen Fieldhouse. Family Zone tickets are also available and include two adult and two youth tickets to every home game for only $149.

The Jayhawks begin their 2015-16 campaign with Late Night in the Phog, which is hosted along with Kansas men’s basketball, on Friday, Oct. 9, inside Allen Fieldhouse.
