KU Women’s Basketball Enjoys Successful Outing on the Links

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Head coach Bonnie Henrickson and the Kansas women’s basketball team enjoyed one of the hottest days of the summer on the links for the 10th Annual Bonnie Henrickson Golf Tournament at Alvamar Golf and Country Club.

“This event and the ‘Jayhawks for a Cure’ game that we have during the season gives us a chance to raise awareness and support the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Breast Center,” said Henrickson. “We’re excited to be able help and contribute financially to research in finding a cure for this horrible disease.”

The annual tournament, which started in 2004, had close to 50 four-person teams play 18 holes. Golfers teed off at 1 p.m. on Saturday with the last participants making their way to the clubhouse late in the afternoon for the final activities of the day.

“It’s a fun day because we’re able to support a great cause and spend time with our boosters and fans,” Henrickson said. “We have almost 50 teams competing this year and a lot of them are repeats from previous years. It’s the first chance for our fans to meet the newcomers and catch up with the veteran players.”

Prior to starting the scramble, participants were able to visit with Henrickson and the 2014-15 women’s basketball team. Participants also had a chance to look over silent auction and raffle items, while fueling up for the afternoon with lunch.

Once the teams wrapped up on the course, dinner, final bids on the silent auction items and a live auction concluded the fun-filled day. Prizes were awarded to best men’s and women’s teams, best mixed team, longest drive, closest to the pin and hole-in-one.

Last year, the Bonnie Henrickson Golf Tournament was able to donate $6,500 to the LMH Breast Center.
