Gardner Earns First Big 12 Weekly Honor

IRVING, Texas – Kansas junior forward Chelsea Gardner collected her first career Big 12 weekly honor on Monday afternoon as she was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Gardner becomes the first Jayhawk to earn the conference’s weekly award in 2013-14 and first since Carolyn Davis was named league player of the week on Nov. 19, 2012.

In Kansas’ win over Texas Southern and three-point loss to No. 18 Purdue, Gardner averaged 23.5 points and 7.5 rebounds. She was also perfect from the free throw line sinking all five attempts, while shooting 72.4 percent from the field (21-of-29).

Gardner started the week scoring a career-high 30 points against TSU (12/12) behind 13-of-16 shooting from the field, including two three-point plays. In addition, she led the team with eight rebounds. Against Purdue (12/15), Gardner recorded a team-high 17 points and swatted away a team-best three blocks. She also grabbed seven boards, which was second-most for a KU player against the Boilermakers.
